Police intelligence operatives from the Lagos State Command have arrested three haulage company drivers, Olayode Abimbola, 25,Mustapha Rasheed, 24 and Abdullahi Adedayo, 49, for allegedly conspiring and diverting N75m worth of Mama Gold Flour products entrusted to them for delivery.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, who are truck drivers of Fafem Haulage Nigeria Limited located at Super bus stop on Abeokuta Expressway, reportedly loaded 300 bags of Mama Gold Flour products but diverted the products on the highway and sold them to an undisclosed buyer.
Apart from selling the products at give away prices, they also sold the company’s truck with registration number FTD 596XA and escaped to an unknown place while the company thought they had delivered the products to the approved destination.
However, when the company waited for the suspects to confirm delivery of the products to the destination to no avail, the matter was reported to the Police at Area P Command in Ipaja, Lagos.
The Police moved into action and eventually arrested the suspects for interrogation over their alleged conduct while others were said to be at large.
After rounds of interrogation, the suspects were found culpable for diversion of the products as they sold both the products and the company’s truck before they escaped.
Having been found culpable, the Police charged them before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for the alleged conspiracy and stealing under the Criminal Laws of the State.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, K.A. Ariyo, granted them bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 11th October, 2024, for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
