FCID Annex Partners Youth Mentorship Group To Boost Crime Prevention

The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has pledged stronger collaboration with civil society groups to drive youth mentorship, leadership development and crime prevention.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCID Annex, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, received a delegation from the Impact Initiative for Youth Mentorship (IIYM) on Wednesday, August 13, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Command.

Leading the delegation, Mr. Victor Cletus Mfon said IIYM has, for the past nine years, focused on identifying, nurturing and developing the talents and leadership potential of young Nigerians. He noted that with limited access to positive role models, many youths are exposed to negative influences, social vices and crime.

“We believe effective mentorship is the bridge between potential and purpose,” Mfon said. “We seek the counsel and support of the Police to expand our reach and impact.”

Other members of the delegation included Mr. Jonathan Abraham, Coordinator; Mrs. Betty Jobaido, Head of Operations from Kenya; Ms. Stacy Ubah, a mentee; Mr. Samuel Igweber; and Mr. Adeoye John of the Media Team.

Mrs. Jobaido said IIYM provides free professional counselling and runs mentorship programmes in schools and underserved communities to build resilience, promote responsible citizenship and reduce vulnerability to crime. She added that the organisation is ready to work with the Police on public safety awareness and security for programmes involving young people and international guests.

The delegation formally invited the AIG as Special Guest of Honour and Honouree at the 9th Impact Leadership Conference & Awards 2026, holding on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Oriental Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The conference theme is “Reimagining Nigeria: Youth Leadership, Governance and National Greatness.”

Responding, AIG Akpanudom described the initiative as timely. He said leadership must begin with self-awareness, mentorship and exposure to positive values, and stressed that equipping young people is critical to nation-building.

“We must prepare our youths to lead with integrity,” he said. “FCID Annex is committed to partnerships that promote youth empowerment and a safer society.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, FCID Annex Lagos, ASP Mayegun Aminat O. ANIPR, MNISMA, said the Command will continue to support initiatives that advance crime prevention and community safety.

The team presented a birthday frame to the AIG as the visit ended with a group photograph.
