A teenager, Marwanu Abubakar, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stabbing a 43-year old man, Abdullaadi Saliu, to death during an argument at a dumb site.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Bolar dump site at Abule Egba area of Lagos.
The suspect was said to have stabbed the victim on the chest following a heated argument and he was rushed to the hospital, where the Doctor on duty confirmed him dead and the corpse was deposited at mortuary for autopsy reports.
Following the incident, he was arrested and transferred to SCID Yaba for further investigation and interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found him culpable for wilfully stabbing the victim, which led to his death over an undisclosed misunderstanding between the duo.
The Police consequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged murder, which attracts life imprisonment or death by hanging.
The charge read:
“That you, Marwanu Abubakar ‘M’, on 20/08/2024, at about 1806 hrs, at Bolar dump site, Abule Egba, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Abdullaadi Saliu ‘M’ aged 43 years with a dagger by stabbing him on the right upper chest thereby, committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, the Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
