Man, 40, Remanded In Custody For Defiling Neighbour’s Girl, 10

A 40-year old man, Sunday Fashola a.k.a Baba beji, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly engaging and defiling his neighbour’s 10-year old daughter and inflicting injury on her private part.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Boundary Road, Shasha area of Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the victim’s parents traveled out of Lagos and kept the girl in the care of the suspect’s family.
However, while the victim’s parents were away for several months, the suspect started molesting, engaging the victim in sex and warned her not to tell anyone about it.
But the act got exposed after the victim started having abnormal pains and she was taken to an undisclosed hospital, where it was discovered that she was molested sexually.
The parents then asked her who was behind the act and she mentioned Baba beji.
The matter was reported to the Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual offences at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos and the suspect was arrested and transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Sunday Fashola ‘m’ sometimes in the month of August, 2024, at Boundary Road, Shasha, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim by having sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. ”
The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the Prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
