Man, 23, Arrested For Being In Possession Of Military Ammunition

The Commissioner of Police Special Squad from the Lagos State Command has arrested a 23-year old man, Achibuogwu Kidochukwu Promise, for being in possession of Nigerian Military ammunition. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Promise was apprehended on 10th January, 2025, in the morning hours at Power line by Iju Road, Iju Shasha,Lagos with two 5.56×45 mm Ammunition belonging to the Military.

 

According to the Police, the operatives were on routine monitoring in the area when they confronted the suspect and discovered the ammunition. They immediately arrested and detained him at the State Command for interrogation.

 

During interrogation, the suspect was unable to explain how he got the ammunition and was found culpable. He was then charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence under the Criminal Laws of the State.

 

The charges read:

“That you, Achibuogwu Kidochukwu Promise and others now at large, on the 10th day of January, 2025 at about 10:30am at Power line by Iju Road, Iju Ishaga Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit unlawful possession of Ammunition and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of 2015.”

 

COUNT II: “That you, Achibuogwu Kidochukwu Promise and others still at large on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did have in your possession two live 5.56×45 mm Ammunition, property of the Armed Forces or the Police which you could not give a satisfactory account on how you came about it and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under Section, 330 (D) of the criminal law of Lagos State of 2015.”

 

 

However, he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 26th February, 2025, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
