In Count Two, the Police alleged that the defendant committed an offence of incest by having carnal knowledge of his niece, a 17-year-old minor, contrary to Section 28 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Law, 2021.
The case was investigated by the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, under CSP Omolola Odutola, with Corporal Mary Abang listed as the Investigating Police Officer.

The Lagos State Police Command has continued to reiterate its zero tolerance for offences relating to defilement, sexual violence and incest, especially those involving minors.
Police sources said the matter was reported to the Gender Section, which is the specialized unit of the Lagos State Command that handles cases of domestic and sexual violence. Operatives were said to have commenced investigation which led to the arrest of the suspect.
Residents of Lidife Street, Off Shoboyejo Street, Elliot Bus Stop, Iju, described the area as a densely populated residential community. They commended the Police for prompt intervention in matters relating to protection of minors.
Legal practitioners note that offences of defilement and incest under Lagos State laws carry serious penalties, but that every defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Law, 2021, provides for protection of victims of sexual violence and ensures that such cases are handled with confidentiality and professionalism.
Child rights advocates have also continued to advise parents, guardians and community leaders to monitor activities around minors and to report any suspected case of sexual abuse to law enforcement agencies or the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
The court said the case file will be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, which will determine the next line of action.
As at the time of filing this report, the date of adjournment is pending the outcome of DPP’s advice.
