2 More Aspirants Join Presidential Race For PG Umuchu Town Election

The bid for who becomes the next President General of Umuchu town, Aguata Local Government of Anambra State, has taken another dimension following the entrance of two more aspirants making it six contestants in the race. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the two entrants were the immediate past Chairman of Ibughubu Community and chief accountant, Hon Ifeanyi Emegwa and the immediate community youth chairman and University astute administrator, Hon. Izuchukwu Anyalebechi, respectively.

They are jostling for the position to take over from the current president, Ozo Charles Ezenwabasili, who will be relinquishing power in August, 2025, with his executives.

As the new entrants are jostling to outwit each other in order to be nominated as the candidate and emerged as president, they have strong opposition from four candidates who had already declared interest to contest and to take over from  Ozo Ezenwabasili from the Okpu na Achalla block in the town to present the next President based on due rotational principle.

The four candidates included the renowned Professor of Electrical Engineering and lecturer of the Anambra State University, Professor Chimaihe Barnabas Mbachu, Engr. Anthony Nnoli, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering of the Enugu State University ( ESUT), Engr. Chidi Amarube, who is also a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from IMT and University of Port Harcourt in River State and a Lagos based International business man, Ogbuehi Raph Njirika.

Hon. Ifeanyi Emegwa, who has Master Degree in accounting and Hon Izuchukwu Anyalebechi, who also parades Master Degree in his own field, were said to be facing tough battles and have strong opposition from the four candidate because of their high profiles and pedigree as well.

According to the indigenes, Professor Mbachu’s pedigree, personality, wealth of experience and educational background seem to be intimidating but he has strong opposition from Engr Nnoli, who has much experience as former Chairman of the community.

It is really challenging for Professor Mbachu to have an easy ride because he has other strong contenders, Nnoli, Emegwa, Anyalebechi, Amarube and Njirika to contend with, who are also very popular and are equally pushing to emerge as the sole candidate.

The duo of Emegwa and Anyalebechi may have wanted to use their youthful age to dislodge the trio of Mbachu, Nnoli and Njirika, but there is another strong contender, Engr. Chidi Amarube, who is  also young and is pushing seriously get the ticket.

Engr. Amarube’s early advantage on the clarion call by the youths of the town that power should shift to the younger generation, seems to have suffered set back because of the entrance of Emegwa and Anyalebechi because they are all youths.

Another strong contestant is Ogbuehi Raph Njirika. He is said to be popular in other blocks that make up Umuchu town especially Amanasaa community and he is said to be pushing seriously to clinch the position by reaching out to critical stakeholders. He has strong opposition from other contestants and some members of community, but that has not deterred him from pushing for the ticket.

The fierce battle among the contestants may have put the leadership of the community led by Hon. Innocent Alaebo in a tight corner on how to prune down the number to three candidates in line with the constitution of Umuchu town.

The idea of a consensus candidate may be difficult following the position of the supporters of the contestants but the task on how to prune down the aspirants and consensus candidate is lying squarely on the leadership of the community led by Hon.Alaebo
