The Benue State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Veronica Garba, has called on corps members to put into practical use the skills acquired through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to create employment for themselves and contribute to national development.

Mrs. Garba made the call during the 2025 Batch A Stream II inter-platoon exhibition and competition held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state.

While inspecting products made by corps members, the state coordinator commended their creativity and encouraged them to remain focused and committed to continuous improvement.

“Discipline and commitment are vital for your business growth when you launch out there after here,” she said.

The event featured an exhibition of various skills acquired by corps members during their SAED training, aimed at inspiring others and reinforcing the importance of self-reliance.

Also speaking at the event, the Camp Director and Head of the SAED programme, Mr. Pupshit James Sumput, advised corps members to perfect their skills and pass on the knowledge by training others.

Skills and products exhibited included paint production, three-dimensional (3D) design, solar installation, aluminium fabrication, agro-allied products, cosmetology, fashion and design, culinary arts, knitting, leather works, barbing, makeup, hairstyling, and ICT.

Winners emerged in various categories such as barbing and hairstyling, makeup and gele tying, fashion and design, and leather works.

The SAED programme, introduced in 2012, is designed to tackle youth unemployment by equipping corps members with practical skills for entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.
