The Lord Bishop of Ijesa North Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev’d Dr. Isaac Oluyamo, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on policies and programmes that will improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking at the Second Session of the Fifth Synod of the Diocese, Oluyamo emphasized the need for the President to prioritize the welfare and needs of the poor.
The Synod, themed ‘A Sound of Abundant Rain’, provided a platform for the clergyman to charge the president to select and implement policies that will directly impact the lives of the poor.
“What is the essence of governance if the poor keep getting poorer?” he asked, stressing that government must positively impact the lives of the most vulnerable in society.
He then prayed for the President and members if his cabinet to succeed in government for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Oluyamo also commended Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for his dynamic leadership and people-friendly policies. He praised the governor for ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries and entitlements due to retirees, urging him to continue in this vein, given the faith and trust the people have in him.
The Diocesan expressed gratitude to the Osun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Tola Faseru, for hosting the Synod and assured that the Church would continue to grow stronger. He encouraged the people to put more effort into evangelism to win souls for Christ.
The Synod, which was witnessed by the State Governor’s representative, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, and other dignitaries, saw the announcement of Rev. Canon Festus Akintayo and Rev. Canon Emmanuel Ajiboye as Archdeacons, and Canon Adeyemo as Statutory Canon.
