Rivers State Flood Committee Visits Rumukrushi River Desilting Site

The Rivers State Flood Committee led by the Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu, has visited the site of the desilting of Rumukrushi River amid heavy downpour on Tuesday afternoon.
The Deputy Ggovernor was also accompanied by South South Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Dr Ogbundu and the President General of Orashi National Congress Amb Emeni Ibe, who was specially invited by the Deputy Governor.
Prof Ngozi Odu emphasized the need to clear the waterways in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of flooding in Port Harcourt metropolis.
She added that the committee would also visit the Local Government areas of Orashi region in coming days.
On his part, the President General of Orashi National Congress, Amb Emeni Ibe, hailed the Rivers State Flood Committee for the visit and planned tour of Orashi region to distribute palliatives to the victims of flooding.
The NEMA South South Zonal Coordinator, Dr Ogbundu, also told newsmen of the agency’s readiness to partner with the Rivers State Government and other groups including the Orashi National Congress on sensitization and awareness campaigns.
