Posted on February 4, 2026

The Rivers State Government has set a high-level technical intervention committee to end the boundary dispute between the Okoloma (Afam) community in Oyigbo and the Ban-Ogoi community in Tai.

During an inauguration ceremony at the Government House on Wednesday, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu formally established a 13-member committee to settle the long-standing territorial friction.

Prof. Odu, who serves as the Chairman of the State Boundary Commission, described the task as a delicate mission that requires courage and absolute objectivity.

She warned that the findings must be rooted in justice to ensure they stand the test of time.

The committee is tasked with reviewing valid historical records and legal submissions to determine the exact boundary line.

Prof Odu noted that the state’s priority is to replace communal tension with a framework for harmonious coexistence.

Committee Chairman King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke accepted the mandate, promising that the panel would act with professional foresight.

He noted that the committee is determined to provide the clarity needed to foster mutual understanding between the two communities.

The members are expected to work under a strict timeline, with a final report and recommendations due back to the Commission within 30 days.
