ECN DG Presents Solarization Award Letter To Bayero University As He’s Honoured With Award Of Recognition

The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has presented the Solarization Award Letter to Bayero University, Kano (BUK), reinforcing the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing renewable energy across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The presentation took place at the ECN headquarters during a strategic meeting with BUK’s management team, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa. Dr. Abdullahi announced that solar installation works at the university will commence next week, beginning with a 1MW capacity to be expanded in phases under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarization Programme.

He emphasized that the deployment and commercialization of renewable energy solutions remain key priorities of the Commission, guided by the National Energy Policy (NEP) and the National Energy Master Plan (NEMP). Dr. Abdullahi also highlighted ongoing solar projects nationwide, including a 5MW installation at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and similar interventions in other critical institutions.
In his response, Professor Haruna Musa praised the ECN Director-General for his leadership and commitment to sustainable energy development, expressing appreciation for the Commission’s support to Bayero University, Kano, particularly in renewable energy infrastructure and capacity building.

As a mark of recognition, the Vice-Chancellor presented an Award of Honour to Dr. Abdullahi on behalf of the university, in acknowledgment of his significant contributions to the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s energy sector.
