How Robbers Invaded Gowon Estate Police Division & Stole Police Officers’ Phones

Some Police officers attached to Gowon Estate Division in Egbeda area of Lagos Command had nasty experiences as robbers invaded the station, stole their phones and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that some of the Police officers who lost their phones at the station included Inspector Jacob Abosede, Inspector Olasibo, Oluwapelumi and Inspector Falana Sunkanmi.
The DPO was said to have equally expressed concern over the missing phones over a period and decided to tighten security around the station and it eventually paid off.
Four suspects, Believe Alfred, Chibuike Okonkwo, 26 Prince Tochukwu, 35 and Sulaimon Olawale, 34, were eventually arrested and detained for interrogation over the missing phones.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
Part of the charges read:
“That you, BELIEVE ALFRED ‘M’, CHIBUIKE OKONKWO ‘M’, PRINCE TOCHUKWU ‘M’, SULAIMAN OLAWALE ‘M’ and others now at large, between the month of June and October, 2025 at Gowon Estate Police station, Egbeda, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, BELIEVE ALFRED ‘M’ CHIBUIKE OKONKWO ‘M’ PRINCE TOCHUKWU ‘M’ SULAIMAN OLAWALE ‘M’ and others now at large on the 2nd day of June 2025, at about 0110hrs. in the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal one Tecno Spark40 phone valued at one hundred and forty thousand Naira only (N140,000.00), property of one Inspr. Jacob Abosede attached to Gowon Estate Police station and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, BELIEVE ALFRED ‘M’ CHIBUIKE OKONKWO ‘M’ PRINCE TOCHUKWU ‘M’ SULAIMAN OLAWALE ‘M’ and others now at large on 15th day of October, 2025, at about 2350hrs in the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal two android phones and one small itel phone all valued at three hundred and fifty seven thousand Naira (N357,000.00) property of one INSPR. OLASIBO OLUWAPELUMI attached to Gowon Estate Police station and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State Of Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, BELIEVE ALFRED ‘M’ CHIBUIKE OKONKWO ‘M’ PRINCE TOCHUKWU ‘M’ SULAIMAN OLAWALE ‘M’ and others now at large on 10th day of March, 2026, at about 0230hrs in the aforesaid magisterial district, did steal one small Itel phone and one android phone valued at N 177,000.00, property of one INSPR. FALANA Sunkanmi, attached to Gowon Estate Police station and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”
“That you, BELIEVE ALFRED ‘M’ CHIBUIKE OKONKWO, PRINCE TOCHUKWU ‘M’ SULAIMAN OLAWALE ‘M’ and others now at large, on 13th day of March, 2026 at about 0200hrs in the magisterial district did attempt to commit felony to wit: stealing and  thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 406 of the Criminal l Law of Lagos State Of Nigeria 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
