A man, Iwu Martins, 44, was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba over a criminal charge filed by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
Court records showed the matter was marked Charge No. NO24/04/20/12 and was listed for arraignment in the Lagos Magisterial District.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that officers from Command Tactical Squad 1, State Headquarters, Ikeja, presented the case before the court.
The Investigating Police Officer, Insp. Madu Joseph of Command Tactical Squad 1, handled the case file and tendered it before the Magistrate for proceedings.
The prosecution informed the court that the charge relates to alleged failure to comply with conditions of Police administrative bail.
Court documents stated that the defendant stood as a surety for one Christian Chiamaka in a Police administrative bail matter.
According to the charge sheet, the administrative bail matter involved an alleged case of obtaining money to the tune of N30,000,000.00 under false pretence and issuance of dud cheque.
The prosecution told the court that the defendant undertook to produce the other party on August 6, 2025 as part of the bail conditions.
The charge sheet further alleged that the defendant deliberately failed to comply with the undertaking to produce the other party on the stated date.
The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him in court by the Magistrate.
The prosecutor, SP Philip Ademigbuji, asked the court for a date to enable the police to present evidence to prove the allegations.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the defendant bail with two sureties.
The court ordered that the sureties must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment as part of the bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned for mention and the defendant was remanded in a correctional facility pending perfection of bail conditions.
The offence was brought before the court as being punishable under Section 907(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015. Legal principle holds that every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
