Cutix Plc Unveils Fire-Resistant Cables to Combat Substandard Cables, Fire Outbreaks

Posted on June 23, 2026

Cutix Plc, one of West Africa’s leading cable manufacturers, is transforming the Nigerian cable and wire manufacturing landscape through innovations that promote life safety, infrastructure protection and industrial growth.

The company is actively driving higher quality standards aimed at eliminating the systemic dangers associated with substandard electrical cables across West Africa. One of its key innovations is the incorporation of Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) insulation technology.

Cutix Plc’s manufacture of cables incorporating HFFR insulation technology helps reduce the risk of fire outbreaks in homes and offices, particularly when premises are unattended.

Some cables in the market contain highly flammable additives and lead-based stabilisers within their insulation materials, increasing both fire risk and potential health hazards associated with lead exposure. By contrast, Cutix HFFR insulation technology is engineered to deprive active flames of combustible fuel, enabling self-extinguishing characteristics within 0–1 seconds. The material also limits flame propagation to within 250 millimetres (0.25 metres).

This innovation is not restricted to HFFR, as other insulators or PVC’s (polyvinyl chloride), such as HWPE, XLPE, LXZH, EPR, LSZH, PE, among others in the Cutix stables, also prevent fire from escalating.

Operating with a strict focus on manufacturing integrity the company has received several accolades such as the Financial Times and Statista recognized Cutix as one of “Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies”; The “Corporate Brand of the Year 2026 Award” organized at the Corporate Brands Institutions Awards – ISO Award; The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) award for the “Adopter of International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)”; the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) presented the company with the “Employee Compensation Award” in 2025, and the company emerged winner of the “Excellence in Manufacturing Award” 2022 at the Nigerian Society of Engineers;.

Cutix also carted away the International Standard Excellence Award for “Best World Class Cable Manufacturing Company of the Decade” in 2022; at the Quality Product Service Award 2021 Cutix received the “Innovation Award of Excellence” for Cross-Linked Polyethylene-Low Voltage Power Armored and Non-Armored Cable Manufacturing, Marketing & Distribution; Cutix received the “Human Development Award” from ICAN (Onitsha) in 2021’ “People’s Organisation Award 2019” in recognition of commitment to the wellbeing of employees during the COVID pandemic – it was presented by Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, and the company received the “Quality Brand of the Year Award” in 2018 from the Nigerian Association of Technology.

Speaking about the company’s resolve in manufacturing quality cables, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Cutix Plc, Mrs Uche Igbokwe, said: “Cutix Plc is a legacy company built on unyielding integrity, meaning every single product that leaves our production floor has undergone and surpassed the most rigorous international standards. Real quality does not compromise, and we refuse to lower our engineering benchmarks or compromise on pricing commensurate with such world-class standards. Our mission is to secure Nigerian homes, lives and assets, and that security begins with our refusal to cut corners in our production processes.”

“We design our retail policies to absorb risk on behalf of our customers and partners. While standard industry practice provides a nominal 100-metre coil length—which factory errors or deliberate market manipulation may reduce to 94 or 99 metres—Cutix packs every coil to a strict 100.5-metre tolerance standard at its own expense. We bear this additional cost to ensure electricians and contractors never experience shortages, thereby protecting their reputation and delivering unparalleled value to end-users.”

The company maintains the heat-treatment process known as annealing. This engineering process ensures that pure copper conductors remain flexible and elastic. It facilitates easy installation and reduces the likelihood of conductor breakage when cables are pulled through tight conduits or when outer PVC insulation is removed during installation.

An electrician based in Agbor, Delta State, John Arimokwu Onyeoghani, shared his experience: “As an electrician, I can confidently say that Cutix cables are the best in the market. However, as someone who owns a cable retail shop, I find it is not always good for business because when you install Cutix cables in a customer’s building, they rarely return for a replacement. It is like a forever cable compared to some other brands. Cutix cable is flexible, does not cut easily, and makes installation work easier. It is the brand I used in my own house wiring.”

The company strictly enforces the conductor diameters required for safety and regulatory compliance, including a 1.78 mm diameter for 2.5 mm² cables and a 2.25 mm diameter for 4.0 mm² cables. This ensures that the cables safely carry their specified electrical current loads without overheating.

Founded by Engineer Obiajulu Uzodike in 1982, the company was established to demonstrate that a wholly indigenous Nigerian enterprise could achieve global manufacturing standards.
