UNIWA Announces Special Art Exhibition to Celebrate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Birmingham

The United Nigeria Welfare Association (UNIWA), Birmingham, Solihull and Black Country, has announced a special art exhibition, “The Nigerian Way,” as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary Celebrations in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Curated by Ayodeji Awoyomi, the exhibition will celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, identity, creativity and the lived experiences of Nigerians at home and across the diaspora.

“The Nigerian Way” will provide a platform for both emerging and established artists to present works exploring themes including community, identity, belonging, heritage, resilience and contemporary Nigerian life.

Artists working in painting, photography, sculpture, digital art, mixed media and other visual forms are invited to submit works reflecting the beauty, strength and extraordinary diversity of Nigeria and its people.

Speaking on the initiative, UNIWA President, Kunle Aderemi, said the exhibition would add an important creative dimension to Birmingham’s celebration of Nigeria at 66.

“Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary is not only an opportunity to celebrate our nation; it is also a moment to celebrate our people, our heritage and the creativity that tells our story across generations. ‘The Nigerian Way’ gives our artists a platform to express what Nigeria means to them and allows the wider community to experience our country through art.”

Aderemi added that UNIWA’s Independence celebrations are intended to promote unity, cultural pride and stronger relationships between the Nigerian community and Birmingham’s wider multicultural society.

Applications are now open, and Nigerian artists, as well as artists whose work meaningfully engages with Nigerian culture, identity and experiences, are encouraged to submit entries and become part of this important cultural showcase.

Hosted by United Nigeria Welfare Association (UNIWA) and curated by Ayodeji Awoyomi, The Nigerian Way forms part of the wider programme commemorating Nigeria’s historic 66th Independence Anniversary in Birmingham.
