The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday issued a certificate of return to Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.

National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Ekiti and Osun States, Prince Solomon Adedeji Soyebi, presented the certificate to Fayemi at a ceremony held at INEC Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.

Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 197,459 votes to emerge winner of Saturday’s governorship election.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, came second with 178,121 votes.

Fayemi, who is expected to be sworn in in October, was Ekiti governor from 2010 to 2014.

Incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose of the PDP has rejected the result and the party has vowed to challenge the election outcome in court.
