The suspects were Monday Ogbonna, 40, Bamiji Akanni, 42, Sunday Odewale, 51 and Anthony Ibe, 30.

The incident happened at the installations located at Mowo area of Badagry of Lagos.

This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, at the State Command, Lagos.
The police chief said that on 17th July, 2018, the police received information from a credible source that MTN installations had been vandalized by robbers who were said to be used to stealing communication equipment in the State. He said that the Command reacted promptly and dispatched a decoy team to monitor the facilities and their efforts paid off.
CP Edgal said that the decoy team intercepted a white Mazda bus with registration number MUS 175XW with five occupants in front of Arena Shopping Complex, Oshodi, Lagos. He said that the vehicle was searched and 16 inverter batteries were found and recovered from them which turned out to be the batteries they stole from MTN installations in the Badagry area of Lagos. They were subsequently arrested and detained at the Command. The police also recovered some exhibits which included the Mazda bus and a navy blue coloured Toyota Hilux with registration number, KTU 658EW.
Edgal said that the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

P.M.EXPRESS spoke with the suspects and they narrated that it had been their business for a period of time.
On how they gained access into the installations, one of them revealed that they had tools which they used to disconnect the batteries and usually went to Arena Shopping Complex to sell them at the cost of N20,000 each.
