21-year Old Swindles 87-Year Old Woman Of N1.4m Savings

An 87-year old woman, Mrs. Oderinde Fabian, lost her life savings to the tune N1.4m to 21-year old Taofik Oladimeji, who she had brought in to assist her because of her old age in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at 30, Abeokuta Street in Itire area of Lagos where the victim who had no child resided.

It was gathered that Oladimeji had offered to assist the old woman in domestic chores  as she had no child to take care of her. Not knowing that he had an ulterior motive, the old woman trusted him and gave him unfettered access to her bedroom where she kept important documents.
However, Oladimeji then stole her bank cheque book, forged her signature and continued to withdraw money from her account at EcoBank to the tune of the said amount.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that alleged theft was exposed when the old woman who had decided to will all her properties to Oladimeji wanted to buy a car for him for his assistance. Her plan to get the car for him failed when she went to withdraw the money to buy car. It was at the bank that she discovered that he had been withdrawing money secretly from her account with the cheque slips he stole from her bedroom.

The matter was reported to the police at Itire Division; Oladimeji was arrested and detained at the police station. There he confessed and said that he was tempted to do so with the intention that the victim will not know because of her age.
He was later charged before Isolo Magistrates court for stealing and forgery.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, did not object his being granted bail.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A Teluwo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,00 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was further adjourned till 17th August, 2018.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the old woman had choice properties in some areas in the State which Oladimeji would have been benefited from if the scam was not discovered.
