A 36-year old sacked private driver, Solomon James, has revealed why he armed himself with a toy gun and condom to rob his boss and asked for his wife during the operation in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that James said he had wanted to use the condom to demonstrate to her madam what his boss, Mr. Utchay Odim, was doing with young girls at her back having known about his sexual escapades as his driver. He also explained that his boss had cheated and sacked him unjustly, and so he decided to rob him as a revenge for the injustice meted to him.

According to the police, James invaded Odim’s house with the gun at his residence located at Ademola Akande Street, Omole Estate in Lagos where he was formerly employed as a driver. He pointed the toy gun at Odim and forced him to transfer money to his account but due to network issues the transaction was not successful. He was said to have persistently asked for Odim’s wife for undisclosed reasons which the police suspected to be a targeted attempt to rape her.
The robbery was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, as the suspect was paraded at the State Command, Ikeja, Lagos.
The police boss said that James had forced himself inside the apartment and held Odim hostage at gun point with a mask which he used to cover his face to avoid being identified. He ordered the victim to face down, tied his hands backward and thereafter ransacked the entire house.
CP Edgal said that James later demanded for his ATM card with which he tried to transfer the victim’s money but it failed due to a network problem.
He said that the suspect equally armed himself with Gold Circle condom and persistently asked of the victim’s wife who was not around. He succeeded robbing the victim of the sum of N38,000, his car key and the ATM card.

However, the police received the information and operatives from the Command moved to the scene. When James realised that the police were around, he scaled the fence to escape but was apprehended and those items recovered from him.
CP Edgal said that the victim, Mr. Odim, identified the suspect as his domestic driver who he had sacked about two months ago. He said that the suspect will be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigations.
He warned Lagosians to be conscious of their security and profile any domestic worker they wanted to employ. He said that James struck because he knew the house well and it was easy for him to gain access even though he had been sacked by his boss.
