Ogbunike Community Cries Out For Help
OGBUEFI COMR HARRIS CHUMA

The people of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State have cried out loud to any ‘messiah’ who could save them from their present predicament of infrastructural deficits, total neglect and gross underdevelopment.
The communities included Azu, Amawa, Osile, Ukalor, Others are Ifite, Umueri. Apart from the alleged total neglect of the area, the communities are protesting that it has been over forty years since the town witnessed meaningful infrastructural development.
For these reasons, they are calling on the well meaning sons and daughters of the town to support the ongoing efforts of the Ogbunike Town Development Initiative (OTDI) as they are set to rescue the communities from untoward hardship they are currently facing. Ogbunike craves for basic infrastructures such as modern schools, health centres, motorable roads, potable water, electricity, and youths empowerment.
Ogbunike indigenes, approximately 5million in population, alleged that in the past 40 years there had been nothing to point to as evidence of development. Also neglected are some schools which have become dilapidated with pupils taking lessons on the dusty floor of the archaic buildings with some roofs blown off. Also, a market, said to have been built by the traditional ruler of the town in the mid seventies, remained unrenovated with reptiles competing for space with human excreta.
The Chairman and Leader of Ogbunike Town Development Initiative, OTDI, Chief Ambassador Obi Azodo, Okpataozueorah of Ogbunike, while lamenting the long neglect of his birthplace by successive governments said:
“If we can reflect, for over 40years no new or any meaningful projects have been initiated or sited in Ogbunike of recent apart from the initial project executed by our incumbent Igwe Ezediorama Umenyiora upon ascension of his throne 42years ago i.e. (Oyeolisa Market, Ogbunike town hall, and the secondary school). No other project after that, both governmental or community initiated have been established in Ogbunike. All that we hear after that are well crafted political jingoism and deceit, caricatures, shabbily and dubiously executed and uncompleted projects, with humongous amount of money sunk into such project in most cases. If we do not arise now to face these challenges squarely, I am afraid Ogbunike town may soon completely go into extinction infrastructural wise before our very eye, God forbid”
Speaking in the same vein, the spokesman of OTDI, Ogbuefi Comr Harris Chuma, said it was high time the people of Ogbunike took their cause seriously. He lamented the ugly state of affairs in the communities:
“Our people have continued to groan under poor health services due to neglect. The people are now crying out for a saviour who will take us to the promise land. We feel the pains of our communities and we know that failure to act now threatens this generation and the generation yet unborn. It is disastrous and complete betrayal of trust for the people of Ogbunike that after all our contributions and loyalty to several politicians from this town our homes are mere sheds. Let us end our Israelite journey here; we want to be at home where we belong, that is Oyi Local Government Area. We are passionately appealing for quick intervention in our communities. We are badly in need of infrastructure” Chuma said.
On the intervention calls, as being advocated by OTDI, the Chairman of the group, Chief Amb Obi Azodo, invites discerning people of Ogbunike to join in the rescue mission:
“I am just getting our mind prepared for the planned convention on Projects Launch of our town Ogbunike in no distance time. It is to help galvanize and mobilize people for fund raising for the many projects that are lacking in our town. After 40years of redundancy and circling round about the mountain God instructed Moses to tell the People of Israel to move northward into their promise land, Deuteronomy 1:6-8. Is it not similar to what has befallen us today? My people of Ogbunike, after 40years of initial project nothing tangible has been done up till now in Ogbunike.”
Ekenem!
