Members of a professional group, Association of Chief Press Secretaries in Lagos State (Conference 57 CPS), paid condolence visit to the Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Hon. Valentine Buraimoh, Wednesday February 6, 2019.

The media aides were at the Council Chairman’s residence to condole with him on the death of late Comrade Irikefe Evwibovwe, who was the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the chairman.

The late CPS Irikefe Evwibovwe died alongside three others in a ghastly motor accident after the Hilux van conveying him and some APC members to a rally of the party’s candidate for Lagos-West Senatorial district, Senator Olamilekan ‘Yayi’ Solomon, lost control and tumbled shortly after the link bridge at Festac extension road in Amuwo Odofin LGA on Monday February 4, 2019.

While receiving the group of Conference 57 CPS, at his private residence at Lakeview Estate in Amuwo-Odofin, Hon. Buraimoh who described the late Irikefe as a humble, vibrant and intelligent CPS, thanked representatives of the group who came to condole with him over the death of one of their members. He said the rally ought to have been suspended because of the incident.

“We are human beings, even an animal demands little respect, let alone individual lives,” he said.

The Council boss described the incident that led to the death of Comrade Irikefe, who hailed from Delta State, as a condemnable act. He urged the group to write formally to Senator Yayi Olamilekan and express their displeasure on why the rally was not suspended in order to sympathize with family members and friends of the bereaved.

CPS Oluwadare Saheed from Iba LCDA commended the Council Chairman for the show of solidarity over the demise of his CPS. According to him, late comrade Irikefe was unable to wear his dress uniform of the CPS Conference 57, hence the need to present it to the Chairman as a mark of respect to the dead.

“It’s quite unfortunate that our colleague never stayed to wear this regalia, we cannot hold it, and as his Principal we have to present it to you,” he said.

Hon. Buraimoh, however revealed that Senator Olamilekan Yayi came to his house in the company of Hon. Akeem Bello to condole with him after the rally on that day, and with a promise to visit the family of the bereaved afterwards.

The late Irikefe was survived by a wife and children.
