Brambaifa Commends Niger Deltans On General Peaceful Disposition Before, During And After Presidential Elections

Posted on March 6, 2019

The Acting MD of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Prof. Nelson Brambaifa, has commended the people of the region for their display of patriotism and sense of political maturity as demonstrated in the February 23rd Presidential/National Assembly Elections.

The Ag.MD in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital, by his media aide, Barr. Igbeta Ayebakuro, showered praises on Niger Deltans, most especially the youth and political leaders for working hard to avoid violence and bloodshed at the last election, which was generally peaceful (except for pockets of challenges in Abonema and few other areas).

“It is true that the polity was rife with tensions and break down of law and order which seemed imminent, but the mature display of political awareness and orientation enabled calm to prevail, and we must commend our people for the violent free polls.”

Prof. Brambaifa further used this medium to urge Niger Deltans to replicate the same disposition for the forthcoming Gubernatorial/States Houses of Assembly Elections.

“Niger Deltans and our youth must be conscious of the fact that life is more precious and valuable than any position, power or wealth, hence people should not allow the ambitions of any politician or overlord to push them to commit crime or involve in any form of violence, even as the people who seek these positions do not gun down one another rather their children/loved ones are often kept far away in safe havens, mostly areas not affected by the politics at home” he said.

The MD further advised that on the Election Day, eligible voters should turn out enmasse to perform their civic duties, in as much as lobbying is an acceptable tool in politics, people should understand its limit and try not to misuse same to cause anarchy.

Prof. Brambaifa wished all Niger Deltans contesting for various elective positions success and prayed that the will of God be done even as they aspire to take the region to enviable heights amidst their political diversity.
