The raping of a 4-year old pupil inside the school premises in Lagos by a class teacher has thrown the school management and parents into serious panic.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the 36-year old teacher, Abiodun Matthew, of Women Society Nursery and Primary School located at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, reportedly lured the victim into one of the classes and defiled her.
The suspect, Abiodun, was said to have removed the girl’s pant and forcefully penetrated her under the supposed care of female teachers who were to take care of the children within the school premises.
The alleged defilement was exposed by the victim after her parents discovered the injury she had sustained in her private part and asked her what happened. She then mentioned that it was the teacher.
The parents who did not take the matter lightly reported the ugly incident to the Gender Section of the Police Command.
Based on the report, operatives of the Gender Section have arrested three female staff of the school namely: Madumewe Charity, 58, Oyinola Olubukola, 46 and Esther Olawole, 33, and charged them before the Court for negligence and exposing the victim within the school premises to be raped while the teacher, Mr. Abiodun Matthew was charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement which may attract life imprisonment.
However, the prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, asked the court to refer the matter to the DPP to determine the jurisdiction of the matter before the trial will go on.
It was gathered that the matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, ordered Abiodun to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till 9th May, 2019 for the report of the DPP to ready.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that since the incident happened, both the management and parents had been in disagreement over the safety of the children coming to the school.
