Military Officer Docked For Being In Possession Of Wooden Gun

A 43-year old Military Officer, who reportedly escaped from Borno State, and turned to a deserter, has been arrested in Lagos for being in possession of a wooden gun suspected to have been used to intimidate members of the public.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was arrested at Igando Bus Stop with fake Military identity card and uniforms before the police went to his house and recovered the wooden gun.
According to the suspect, he was enlisted in the Nigerian Army and deployed to Ogoja in Cross River State.
However, he was sent to Borno State to fight the insurgents but he escaped and came to Lagos with his family.
Trouble started when an Army officer accosted him at the bus stop with military cap and demanded for his identity card. He was said to have brought the fake one and was taken to the police at Igando Division.
During the interrogation, he told the police that he was still in the Army but only ran away when he was sent to fight Boko Haram.
The police went to his house, discovered the wooden rifle and then had reasonable conclusion that he was a suspected criminal who used the wooden gun to intimidate and rob members of the public.
He was arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for impersonation and possession of military uniforms.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the Court for a date for hearing for the police to prove the case.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 3rd June, 2019.
