A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Lagos State, Hon. Engr. Fatai Kehinde Owolabi, has sent condolence and consoling messages to residents of Ijegun and Alimosho Local government area of Lagos State, over the fire incident that destroyed properties and killed people on Thursday.
The two-time PDP candidate (Constituency 2) expressed sadness at the rate of insecurity of lives and properties in the society. He appealed to the high authorities to set up an investigation to bring the perpetrators of the act to book.
Hon. Owolabi urged the victims to have faith in God as it was only Him that can really console them.
He said he woke up in the morning and heard the ugly news about the incident, which he described as sabotage to the nation’s resources by gullible people among us. He advised the people behind the sabotage to have change of mind and to realise that any action that takes human lives does not worth it.
Owolabi appealed to individuals not to build houses close to the pipelines because it was dangerous because of high inflammation nature of the products.
The explosion took place on Thursday morning after vandals reportedly compromised the NNPC pipes and siphoned petroleum products. To evade arrest by the security agents, the vandals were said to have set fire on the spillage and eventually escaped with their tankers loaded with the products.
The inferno reportedly killed two persons and over 30 vehicles were burnt after the spillage spread in the area.
Meanwhile the officials of the NNPC were able to quench the fire and repair the broken pipe before normalcy returned in the area after 12 hours intensive work in conjunction with other security agents.
