A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), has carried out 263 successful surgeries of various ailments including fibroid in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State following a partnership with the council.

The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee of the Council, Solomon Onwuegbuchulam, disclosed this to members of the correspondents Chapel of the NUJ, who visited him in his office on a fact finding mission.

“They wrote to us for collaboration and assured that they would arrive with 30 experienced surgeons to handle a target of 200 patients and requested our co-operation which we complied with” he said.

Onwuegbuchulam, who decried the deplorable situation of the council which he inherited upon assumption of office, said that he had since installed a 300KVA generator to restore normal supply of electricity at the council which he said had been without light for the past 8 years.

Aside this, the council boss said that he had commenced the construction of classroom blocks for schools in the area in partnership with the State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB) as well the renovation of dilapidated school blocks at the Emekuku Ward 2, Naze, Owalla and Ngwoma Health Centre, just as he had secured the approval of the state government for the procurement of equipment such as grader and bulldozer for road rehabilitation in the area.

Professing his commitment to due process and rule of law, Onwuegbuchulam said that his open door policy has enhanced relations between staff and the management.

Drawing inspiration from the Rebuild Imo mantra of the State Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, the Council Chairman added that he had commenced the construction of a stadium complex and a befitting secretariat complex in the council, in addition to clearing all entitlement of staff left unpaid by previous administration of the council.

Steve Uzoechi, Chairman of the Chapel, had earlier told the council Chairman that the visit was to enable newsmen to ascertain the achievements and constraints of his council for media publicity and to explore areas of cooperation with the Council.
