Former Governor and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, was on Saturday, 4th January, 2020, honoured by the Aguleri Community in Anambra State with a chieftaincy title.
The conferment, which took place at Ama Igwe, Aguleri, witnessed the display of the rich cultural heritage of Ndi Aguleri and was performed by Eze Dr. Michael C. Idigo V, (Ezeudo), Eze Aguleri. Eze Idigo honoured Prof Soludo with the title “Odenjinji Aguleri”.
The event, which was also the 120th Ovala Festival by the Idigo Royal Family of Aguleri, drew a large crowd of dignitaries from within and outside the state.
Reacting to the honoured done Prof Soludo by the Aguleri people, one of his followers, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, said, “The way we effortlessly yield to the dictates of other persons, despite our personal liberties, is critical to understanding the character and quality of leaders we flock around. Odenjinji Aguleri is another affirmation that Prof C.C. Soludo is a leader with roots so deep that my reaction will hardly scratch beyond its surface.
Over the years, Prof Chukwuma Soludo had avoided the glamour and glitz associated with chieftaincy conferment; he has, over time, been offered over 100 chieftaincy titles across the country which he has kept in view or politely turned down.
It will be recalled that when Obasanjo appointed Prof Soludo as the CBN Governor in 2004 from post of The Chief Economic Adviser, Aguata, Orumba North and Orumba South people staged a grand reception for him tagged ” Dance of Honour” during which he was conferred with the title of Odenigbo Aguata na Orumba.
