A 50-year old landlady, Mrs. Bridget Fawehinmi, has been arrested for allegedly breaking into her tenant’s three bedroom apartment, stealing property worth N11m and escaping with them.
P.M.EXRESS reports that the incident happened at No. 5 Ijaye Street, Oshodi area of Lagos, where they reside.
It was gathered that the landlady, Mrs. Fawehinmi, allegedly broke into one Jolaosho Ekundayo’s apartment when he was not around, stole his gold, lace, ankara, generating set, shoes and other items worth the said amount.
Thereafter, she reportedly threw his other properties outside without a Court order and locked the place. When the owner came back, he discovered that his properties were outside and he did not find the missing items. He went to the Police at Makinde Division and reported what happened.
Mrs. Fawehinmi was then arrested and detained at the station for interrogation. She was asked to provide the missing items but she was unable to do so.
She was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates for the alleged burglary and stealing.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Peter Nwaogwugwu, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O.Aje-Afunwa, granted her bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
The landlady was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 16th March, 2020.
