Roundabout Improvement Projects: Lagos State Govt To Deliver By Mid-April

Posted on February 26, 2020

The Lagos State Government has reassured Lagosians that the ongoing Junction/Roundabout improvement projects embarked upon to ease vehicular movements in four major locations would be completed and delivered by the middle of April, 2020.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, disclosed this yesterday during his inspection tour to ascertain the progress of the work done so far on the projects.

Oladeinde, in the company of the Director, Transport Engineering, Engr. Bolaji Bada and other top government officials, hinted that most of the junctions have overstayed their importance, as the increase in the influx of vehicles that ply Lagos roads on a daily basis has outgrown the capacity of the junctions, maintaining that there is an urgent need to reconstruct them for increased vehicular movement as well as signalising the junctions to ease congestion.

“You will agree with me that all these junctions and roundabouts have overstayed their usefulness as they no longer have the capacity to accommodate the high vehicular movements; this has contributed to traffic congestions especially during peak hours, so we will reconstruct the junctions to increase their capacities” Oladeinde stated.

Commending Lagosians for supporting the Six Pillars Development Agenda of the present administration which priorities efficient Traffic Management and Transportation, the Commissioner disclosed that the four inspected projects: Allen, Maryland, 1st and 2nd Lekki Roundabouts were over 55% completed, expressing optimism that all the projects would be delivered latest by the second week of April.

Applauding the present administration’s huge investment in the transport sector, Oladeinde stated that efficient traffic management and transportation is crucial to achieving a 21st-century economy which is essential in an emerging smart city like Lagos.

The Commissioner, who expressed satisfaction with the level of work done at the Allen Junction Improvement Project, urged all contractors to work harder to ensure that the March/April deadline is met so that less traffic will be experienced by road users plying the corridors.

Oladeinde commended Lagosians for enduring the pain of traffic bottleneck currently experienced in the metropolis as a result of various on-going road improvement projects, assuring that the traffic situation would improve as soon as the projects are completed.

In his remarks, the General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Engr. Olajide Oduyoye stated that his men will be fully on ground to direct traffic to ensure free vehicular movement at all times and unlock traffic gridlocks where necessary.

Oduyoye, therefore, urged all residents and motorists to continue to support the State Government in the enforcement of the State Traffic Laws, adding that the restriction of Okada/Keke operations is for the safety of lives and property of Lagosians.
