A 65-year old mentally challenged patient, Solomon Akukwe, reportedly lost the sum of N10m after he was secretly taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, by his 27-year old lover, Mariam Seidu, who allegedly conspired with a hospital staff, emptied his bank account and kept him in captivity to die.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that three top officials of LUTH in Idi Araba, Lagos, may have run into a serious mess after the family of the patient discovered the scam, sought for his release and they refused insisting that it was only Mariam Seidu who can effect his release him from captivity.
It was gathered that Mariam Seidu was nowhere to be found and Solomon was kept in captivity at LUTH without allowing him see any member of his family while his phones, through which they siphoned his money were seized despite the fact that his former employer was paying the bills.
Some top officials linked in the siphoning of Solomon’s money include a Professor of Medicine, Matron and social workers at LUTH. They were said to have forcefully taken Solomon to his bank and forced him to withdraw his money as medical bills for his treatment.
Following the alleged scam, the Police Intelligence team in Lagos has commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the siphoning of the N10m from the bank account of the patient, Solomon, who was a former senior staff of Chevron and was retired due to the mental illness.
In the petition to the Police in Lagos dated 12th May, 2020, by Solomon’s sister, Mrs. Ngozi Adenuga, she stated that some strange elements namely Marian Seidu, Professor Adeyemi, doctor at LUTH, the Matron E1 Ward,  Alhaja Lateef and social worker, Miss Fade, were conspirators to the illegal siphoning of Solomon’s bank deposits. She stated that Solomon suffered trauma from the second wife, one Celestina Nwamaka Igweonu, who he married which affected his mental state and she took him to a rehabilitation centre in Abuja where he met Marian Seidu. When his mental health worsened, Marian secretly took him to LUTH where she perfected plans to siphon all his money.
The petitioner, alleged that when Marian discovered that Solomon had money, she manipulated him back to Lagos from Abuja and violated family’s instruction that Solomon should not be taken to LUTH rather to Chevron hospital or psychiatric hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
“This Lady, Marian Seidu, did this together with Professor Adeyemi, the Matron, Alhaja Lateef and Miss Tade, with the aim of keeping my brother in strange hospital custody to siphon his resources.””The conspirators did not allow the family to see Solomon to know his condition until I got to LUTH and discovered that they were operating his phone.”
She stated that there was no doubt that there is conspiracy and the fear in the family is that Solomon might be killed in the process and his property will be confiscated because the lady in question, Marian Seidu, hails from Plateau State and was sent to rehabilitation centre over drug addition and the family sought for Police intervention in order to release the patient from LUTH.
When P.M.EXPRESS contacted Marian Seidu over the matter, she said that nothing concerned her again and the reporter should contact Solomon’s family. Then the LUTH Matron in question, Alhaja Lateef, was also contacted and she referred our correspondent to the Legal Department for comments.
However, when our reporter visited LUTH, the Legal Department told our reporter that they would respond at the appropriate time when they have seen the petition. They said what was paramount was the protection of the patient but did not state how they are protecting Solomon who is in captivity at LUTH and his money siphoned having taken advantage of his condition.
