A 50-year old man, Tyndala Ede, has been arrested by Police operatives from Ikotun Division led by CSP Adagba Johnson, after his 19-year old daughter confessed to her mother that she has been having sex with her father for the past years from when she was only 11.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the alleged defilement happened at Kajola Street, Ikotun area of Lagos, where they reside.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed that Ede is now cooling his head in custody. He said that on 9th May, 2020, at about 1430 hours, a 45-year old woman (name withheld) reported at Ikotun Police Station that her husband, Ede Tyndale ‘m’ 50 years old of Kajola Street, Ikotun, has been committing incest with their 19-year old daughter (name withheld).
Elkana explained that trouble started when the woman noticed some strange behaviours from her daughter and decided to find out why the sudden disrespect towards her father. The girl then opened up to her mother that her father started having sexual intercourse with her when she was 11 years old. That he often threatened her whenever she resisted him; that the father instilled so much fear in her that she finds it difficult to report to anybody. Elkana said based on the report, the suspect, Ede, was arrested by detectives from the Family Support Unit and he reportedly confessed to the commission of the crime. He said after a thorough investigation into the case, the suspect was on 11th May, 2020, charged before Chief Magistrate Court II, Ogba, on five count charges of Incest, Rape, Sexual harassment, Defilement and Sexual assault.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Ezekiel Ayorinde, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice. He is remanded in custody pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice while the case was adjourned to 15th June, 2020.However, the matter may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP’s advice finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence which attracts life imprisonment.
