Man, 27, Arrested At Shoprite Mall For Eating N80,000 Food Without Payment

A 27-year old man, Joseph Ugbokwe, has been arrested after he went to Shoprite Mall in Lagos, ate N80,000 worth of food and refused to pay.


P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Shoprite located within the Ikeja Mall at Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspect went to the mall, ordered for different types of food and ate satisfactorily like he wanted not knowing that he had no money to pay.
It was gathered that after the suspect had eaten the food and was about to walk out, he was accosted to pay for the food. It was then he started making trouble and damaged the roof of the mall in the process.

The matter was reported to the Police and he was arrested. He was subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, DSP Clara Olagbayi, asked the Court to grant him bail because it was a bailable offence.
Thus the Presiding Magistrate, Miss O.A. Ogunjobi, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000  with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will fulfill his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 28th June, 2021, while he will be in custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
