Winning two Badminton gold medals for Team Lagos was a moment of joy for Anuoluwapo Opeyori at the ongoing 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja on Saturday.

Opeyori, the Nigeria’s number one player in Badminton, said that he was participating in his second festival, adding that “I could not win gold for Lagos in my first outing, but I’m so much glad that I made it gold for Lagos this time and not one but two.”

The Nigerian champion gave kudos to the Lagos State Sports Commission for its support and more importantly the former chairman of Lagos State Badminton Association, and now President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih, who has been a pillar of support and encouragement for him.

He said he would carry the success of the sports festival to the national tournament which will hold in Port Harcourt, Rivers State very soon.

To the coach of Badminton in Lagos State, Olatunji Kayode, coming top with 2 gold and 1 silver medals in the overall medal table for the game at the sports festival was a successful challenge for him.

“This is a sweet challenge for me. I want to commend the Lagos State Sports Commission for its moral, financial and equipment support for the team, we are so much grateful,” Kayode said.
