Achieving Health Initiative Of The Global Fund Donates Health Kits To Anambra Women & Children

Family Health International of the Global Fund has donated Health Kits for adolescent women and children in Anambra State.
This took place at the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare Anambra State, Hon. Ify Obinabo during a recent interface with the team.

Speaking before presenting the items, the Senior Program Officer | Global Fund – National Aligned HIV/AIDS Initiative Project, Mr. Henry Udenenwu, noted that Nigeria as a country is both donor and recipient of the Global Fund explaining that it is the grant that is implemented that covers the scope of general population including young women and children.
In her paper presentation, Leah Umeokeke explained that the aim of the initiative is to reduce the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS among adolescents and also bring to the barest minimum the transmission of sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases.

Responding, the State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Hon. Obinabo, appreciated them for their support and assured of more collaboration with the Global Fund.

Hon. Obinabo urged the team to also organize a seminar for social workers in the different Local Government areas of the state in order to help the Sexual and Gender Based Violence response team in their delivery of duty.
The intervention, which is done in stages, is targeted at addressing some of the risk factors dominant in young ones such as biological, behavioral and structural factors.

Items donated included HIV self test kits, packs of male condoms, Umbrellas, Packs of Sanitary Pads and Female condoms.
Highlight of the occasion was the handing over of the items.
