A Social Critic and Human Rights activist, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, has lamented and made passionate appeals to President Muhammadu Buhari and Anambra State Governor, Chief Sir Willie Obiano, to put smile on the faces of Anambra people by rehabilitating decrepit and deplorable roads in the State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that some of the roads, which are now death traps included 3-3 Otuocha, Onitsha-Owerri, Nnewi-Uga-Okigwe, Igbo Ukwu, Obodoukwu Road in Onitsha and other roads, have bought untold hardship, nightmare, avoidable deaths for road users and commuters.

He stated that the roads are inaccessible and deplorable and that if urgent steps are not taken, at the peak of the rainy season it will cause more excruciating sufferings and horrendous havoc to the citizenry and road users.

He urged the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Taking Fashola, to pay urgent working visits to the roads for on the spot assessment of the despicable condition of the roads. He suggested that the Minister should direct Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to commence palliative rehabilitating works for the roads.

“I commend and appreciate the ongoing works on Second Niger Bridge, Onitsha-Enugu Road and Akanu Ibiam international Airport by the Buhari administration. I also appeal to the Obiano administration to take urgent steps towards rehabilitating decrepit and collapsing Haruna Bridge near Main Market Onitsha, Niger Street, Ochanja and Obodoukwu roads to give the people sense of belonging and avert imminent danger posed by the pathetic and pitiable condition of the roads. The roads are inaccessible despite its indispensable roles for socioeconomic growth and development of our state. The essence of Government is for the greater happiness of the greatest number of people.  His Excellency should kindly dispatch the Honourable Commissioner of Works to pay visit to the roads and proffer emergency solution to the pathetic and pitiable condition of the roads that had caused excruciating pain, sufferings and hardship for the citizenry, commuters and other road users” Ezekwueme posited.
