Sixteen countries from across Africa will participate in the African Senior and Kata Championships  scheduled for Oran, Algeria.

The championships will take place between May 26th to 29th in the North African city.

The countries for the championships  include Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’ Ivoire and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Others are Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Niger, South Africa and Togo.

Sixty nine judokas will feature in the three day championships.

They are 44 men and 25 women and they will slug it out in seven weight categories each.

Egypt, South Africa and Cote d’Ivoire are the top dogs in the event which is not being attended by the hosts, Algeria.

However, the minnows are expected to put up a good performance as several nations on the continent are now paying more attention to the oriental sport by exposing their judokas to many international competitions.

From Oran in Algeria, the judo caravan will head for the Madagascar capital, Antananarivo where the African Senior Open Championship will take place between June 18-19, 2022.
