African Women To Storm Abuja For SWS’ National Conference And Summit

<strong><em>Standup for Women Society at the first-ever National Conference and Summit at the Novatel Hotel in Lekki, Lagos last year</em></strong>

 

One of the Africa’s leading women advocacy non-governmental groups, Standup for Women Society (SWS) will hold its National Conference and Summit in Abuja FCT from 13-16 September, 2023.

The National Conference and Summit, which will be the second edition, will hold at Top Rank Hotel Galaxy, Plot 245, POW Mafemi, off Solomon Lar Way, Utako, Abuja. The first edition was held in Lagos last year.

With the theme: Women: Bridge Builders in Good Governance and Societal Balance, the SWS led by Barrister (Mrs.) Deborah A. Ijadele-Adesona will use the Summit to discuss state of Nigerian nation viz-a-viz the contribution of the women folk in the society.

The Conference and Summit will be chaired by Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Executive Governor of Ogun State with other invited special guests among whom are Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of Nigeria (Special Guest of Honour), Hajiya Titi Atiku Abubakar (Mother of the Day) and HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, Emir of Gombe.

Mrs Billie Nwogu, National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the SWS said speakers have been drawn from both home and aboard. They are Mrs. Christiana Ekaete Laniyan (Abuja), Ms Grace Mumo from South Africa, Hajiya Zaynab Jamil Gwamna (Gombe), Hajiya Aisha Yesufu (Abuja), Rt. Hon. Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu (Enugu).

Barr. Ijadele-Adesona who is the Convener and International President of the SWS said the theme of the Conference/Summit was carefully chosen to underscore the important roles the women are playing in the society to build bridge, adding that Nigerian women like their counterparts across the world should be seen as an integral part of nation building and political cohesion.

According to the Convener, the SWS have chapters across the 36 states and the FCT Abuja and 22 African countries of which Presidents of about six Country Chapters are coming to attend the National Conference.

“It will definitely be a full house and celebration of African women during our Summit this year,” she said.
