On May 8, 2025, a monumental day dawned in the history of Anambra State and the South-East region of Nigeria. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s historic state visit to Anambra went beyond a ceremonial event; it was a powerful declaration of a new era, one where the South-East is no longer marginalised but is instead embraced as a vital component of Nigeria’s national development.

For decades, the South-East has faced significant challenges in infrastructure and economic development. The region has been left behind, with its potential stifled by neglect.

However, the winds of change have finally arrived, and they are blowing strong. President Tinubu’s visit and the subsequent approvals of key projects now signify a turning point that promises to transform the South-East and uplift its people.

For instance, the inclusion of Anambra State and the South-East in the National Railway Masterplan is a game-changer. This bold move will open new corridors of mobility, trade, and interconnectivity, linking the region to the rest of the federation in ways previously unimaginable.

The railway will not only boost economic activity but also drive greater unity among Nigeria’s diverse regions. Similarly, the integration of Anambra and the South-East into the nation’s Gas Pipeline Masterplan is a critical step towards industrialisation and energy access. This development will support the state’s burgeoning manufacturing and technology sectors, creating jobs and driving economic growth. It is a tribute to the vision of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, whose strategic engagement with the federal government has yielded tangible results.

The approval to complete the Federal highway linking Anambra and Kogi State is another key project. This highway will drastically reduce travel time to Abuja in less than four hours, promoting trade, mobility, and national unity. It is a project that will benefit not just Anambra but the entire South-East region, enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities.

The commencement of reconstruction works on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway is long overdue and much-needed. This infrastructural challenge has plagued the region for years, and President Tinubu’s attention to this issue under his Renewed Hope Agenda is a significant step forward. It demonstrates a commitment to addressing the region’s needs and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Also, President Tinubu’s pledge to support ecological investments to tackle erosion in Anambra State is particularly timely. Environmental issues pose a significant threat to the region, and federal intervention is crucial. This support will help mitigate the impact of erosion and protect the state’s natural resources and communities.

Culturally, the conferment of the chieftaincy title ‘Dike-Si-Mba Anambra’ upon President Tinubu by the traditional rulers of Anambra is a symbolic gesture that demonstrates his commitment to the region. It is a recognition of his contributions to national development and unity and a proof of his friendship with the state.

This act of cultural respect and appreciation further strengthens the bond between the federal government and Anambra.

Without a doubt, President Tinubu’s acknowledgment of Anambra State’s potential and his pledge to work with Governor Soludo to transform Anambra into an African Dubai, Taiwan, Silicon Valley (ADTS) is a progressive goal. This partnership is a shining example of progressives working together to achieve a common vision of progress and prosperity. It is a ray of hope for what can be accomplished through collaborative efforts and shared aspirations.

One cannot but equally acknowledge the federal government’s commitment to restoring security in Anambra State and the South-East as another critical aspect of this historic visit. Security is a fundamental prerequisite for development, and this partnership will ensure that the region can thrive in a safe and stable environment.

So far, the State Visit has been a resounding victory for the people of Anambra and the South-East. It is a triumph for justice, inclusivity, and progressive leadership that proves to be a big win for Nigeria at large. It is an authentication of the power of constructive engagement, strategic partnership, and purposeful governance under Governor Soludo’s administration.

His tireless pursuit of development and equity for Ndi Anambra and the South-East is yielding appreciable results.

Looking to the future, Ndi Anambra can be filled with optimism. The landmark approvals granted by President Tinubu will undoubtedly translate to tangible improvements in the wellbeing of Anambra’s and the enterprising people of South-East.

And as the Anambra State Government keeps working collaboratively with the Federal Government to ensure the successful execution of the pledged projects, the Light of the Nation will keep shining gloriouly, illuminating a brighter future for Southeast and Nigeria.
