Akinpelu Receives SDGs Projects, Commends Orelope-Adefulire for Transformative Investments in Alimosho

The Executive Chairman of Alimosho Local Government, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has commended the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), led by Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, OFR, for delivering transformative healthcare, educational and recreational infrastructure in Alimosho.

Akinpelu gave the commendation on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, during the commissioning and handing over of the newly completed Kareem Laka Primary Health Centre and Children’s Recreation Centre in Egbeda, as well as blocks of classrooms at Orisumibare Primary School, Orisumibare, Shasha.

The Chairman described the projects as significant milestones in the development of the communities, noting that they represent important investments in the health, well-being, education and future of residents, particularly women, children and other vulnerable members of society.

He expressed appreciation to Princess Orelope-Adefulire for the interventions and her continued support for community development, while also acknowledging the contributions of traditional rulers and other stakeholders whose cooperation contributed to the successful delivery of the projects.

Akinpelu specially commended the Elegbeda of Egbeda, HRM Oba Hammed Omogoriola Orelope Laka, for his leadership and support towards the development of Egbeda and its people.

He equally appreciated the Alaye of Orisumibare, HRM Oba Akeeb Adebowale Rauf for graciously providing the land on which the Orisumibare Primary School project was developed.

The Chairman also acknowledged the contributions of Hon. Lukman Olatunji Orelope Laka, Member representing Alimosho Constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, for his continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of constituents.

Speaking at the commissioning, Princess Orelope-Adefulire said the interventions reflected the interconnected nature of sustainable development, stressing that a healthy child requires quality healthcare, safe spaces for recreation and a conducive environment for learning.

She explained that the 40-bed Primary Healthcare Centre in Egbeda was delivered as part of efforts to advance Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-being, with the facility expected to expand access to affordable and essential healthcare services for residents of Egbeda and neighbouring communities.

According to her, the centre would bring healthcare closer to the people, reduce the burden of travelling long distances for treatment, strengthen maternal and child healthcare services, and improve the capacity of frontline health workers to respond effectively to community health needs.

She urged the relevant health authorities, facility managers, health workers, community leaders and residents to take collective ownership of the facility by ensuring that it is properly staffed, equipped, protected and maintained.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President also highlighted the significance of the Children’s Recreation Centre, noting that recreation is an essential component of childhood development rather than a luxury.

She said the facility would provide children with a safe and inclusive environment to develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally, while promoting creativity, teamwork, confidence and healthy habits.

On the educational intervention, Princess Orelope-Adefulire said the classroom blocks at Orisumibare Primary School were designed to support the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Quality Education by providing pupils and teachers with a safer, more conducive and dignified learning environment.

She noted that the classrooms would help ease pressure on existing facilities, improve concentration and attendance, and support better teaching and learning outcomes.

She emphasised that the true value of the classrooms would ultimately be measured by the dreams, knowledge and opportunities nurtured within them, urging teachers, parents, education authorities and the community to ensure that the facilities are properly utilised and maintained.

Princess Orelope-Adefulire further described the three projects as a connected investment in human capital, explaining that healthcare protects life and well-being, recreation supports healthy growth and social development, while education equips children with the knowledge and skills needed for the future.

She acknowledged the cooperation of the Lagos State Government, local government authorities, traditional and community leaders, implementing partners, contractors, professionals and residents whose support contributed to the completion of the projects.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President reaffirmed the commitment of OSSAP-SDGs to delivering impactful interventions and partnerships that improve lives, strengthen communities and accelerate Nigeria’s progress towards the attainment of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Receiving the facilities on behalf of Alimosho Local Government, Akinpelu assured residents that the council would ensure their proper utilisation and maintenance.

He appealed to the beneficiary communities, school authorities and relevant stakeholders to take ownership of the projects, protect the facilities from vandalism and ensure that they continue to serve present and future generations.

The Chairman also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts to re-engineer the Nigerian economy and for the deployment of subsidy savings towards critical development projects that directly impact the lives of citizens.

Akinpelu formally accepted the handover of the Kareem Laka Primary Health Centre and Children’s Recreation Centre in Egbeda, as well as the classroom blocks at Orisumibare Primary School, describing the interventions as valuable additions to the development of Alimosho.

The commissioning and handover further underscored the importance of collaboration among federal agencies, state and local governments, traditional institutions and communities in translating the Sustainable Development Goals into tangible projects that directly improve the lives of citizens.
