Align Beliefs With Behaviour – Hamzat Urges Nigerians
Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Nigerians to ensure that there is an alignment between their religious beliefs and behaviour as a people for a better Nigeria.
The Deputy Governor gave the advice while speaking at the Commissioning of the Janazah Bay at Shamsi Adisa Thomas Memorial Community Mosque, Old Secretariat, GRA, Ikeja.
Dr. Hamzat said it is necessary to improve our behaviours in order to sustain peace and harmony for the development and growth of the country, noting that there is also a need to maintain cordial relationship towards one another while being upright in all our ways.
He expressed the need for individuals to allow their religious beliefs have an impact on their lives and relate well with neighbours, stressing that everyone must their brothers’ keepers.
His words: “How are we as a people using religion to impact our lives? Are we just praying without any effect on how we behave? How are we as a people treating ourselves?”
Earlier in his address, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alhaji Lawal Pedro (SAN), stated that the Janazah Bay is meant to provide a place for Muslims to clean and wash corpses which is an important part of the rituals of burial in Islam.
He added that the Bay is the second to be commissioned in the State and is specifically designed for purifying and sanitising the body.
Pedro said the first Janazah Bay is located at the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, and has been commissioned.
