Few days to the commencement of the 2021 edition of its football4girls tournament, the Asisat Oshoala Foundation has received a big boost from the former First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode.

The football4girls tournament will be held in Lagos from 1-2 December at the Campus Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, while the final holds on 3 December at Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

The surprised endorsement and support from Mrs Ambode came at a period the Asisat Oshoala Foundation is preparing for another Football4girls project, one of many projects from the Asisat Oshoala Foundation. The aim of the tournament is bring the girls together for them to learn the basics of football from the captain of Nigeria’s senior women team, the Super Falcons, while also reminding them of the importance of education.

This is not the first time Mrs. Ambode has lend her support to the foundation, as she had done this severally when her husband, Akinwunmi Ambode was the governor in Lagos.

“This is a great support for us at this period when we are about organising the 2021 edition of football4girls event. I am so much humbled with this support,” Oshoala said from her base in Spain.

Highlights of this year’s event include sensitization on the danger faced by a girl child through puberty, adolescence to adulthood. Distribution of sanitary pads and toiletries.

“Education is key so as sports and combining both together will help develop a girl child. The plan is that this year’s edition won’t be limited only to sports and education alone. A medical day has been set aside by Emzor Pharmaceuticals to help the girls work on their hygiene and we will share 1,000 face masks and sanitary pads to the girls.”

As the Football4grils event reached its 6th edition this year, the reigning African women footballer of the year, Oshoala was elated that she could impact positively into the life of Nigerian girls in her own little way with the Foundation and her corporate supporters.

This year’s edition will future 16 secondary schools in Nigeria with academy play for prize money and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) standing a chance to play in Europe and further her education.

Some of the schools and academies that will participate in the year’s edition are Ossy Angels, Nakamora Queens, Victory Queens, Oracle Queens, Isale Eko Grammar School, Lafiaji High School, Dolphin High School, Queens College and others.
