Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s re-election bid for a second term as Anambra State Governor appears increasingly unassailable.  His administration’s transformative achievements across various sectors have not only garnered widespread acclaim but have also positioned him as a visionary leader committed to the state’s progress. Below are additional reasons the 64-year old former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria can sleep comfortably, knowing full well that his second term is guaranteed.
Transformative Infrastructure Development:
Governor Soludo has spearheaded an unprecedented infrastructural revolution in Anambra State.  Over 739 kilometers of roads have been constructed, with 420 kilometers already commissioned, significantly improving connectivity and boosting economic activities across the state.  The “Zero Pothole” initiative has effectively enhanced road safety and transportation efficiency.  Notably, these projects have been executed without accruing any debt, showcasing prudent financial management by the professor and his team.
Educational Reforms and Human Capital Development:
In the education sector, the Soludo administration has made remarkable strides.  The recruitment of over 8,000 teachers has addressed staffing shortages, while the introduction of free education has led to an 18.7% increase in school enrollment.  These efforts have significantly reduced the number of out-of-school children in the state. Although the one that has continued to be intractable is the Monday-Sit-At-Home which cuts across the entire East and has continued to affect the students.
Healthcare Improvements:
Healthcare delivery has seen substantial enhancements under Governor Soludo’s leadership.  The construction of five new hospitals and the upgrading of 326 health centers have equally expanded access to medical services.  The employment of 1,000 healthcare professionals and the provision of free antenatal care have again contributed to improved maternal and child health outcomes.
Youth Empowerment and Technological Advancement:
Governor Soludo’s commitment to youth empowerment is evident through initiatives like the “One Youth, Two Skills” program, which has trained and empowered over 5,000 youths with seed capital to start their businesses.  Additionally, the Solution Innovation District has trained more than 25,000 individuals in ICT-related skills, positioning Anambra as a budding tech hub and a future ICT destination.
Economic and Environmental Initiatives:
The administration’s agricultural revolution includes the distribution of over 1.1 million hybrid coconut and palm seedlings to more than 100,000 households, promoting agro-industrialization.  In a move towards sustainable energy, about 25,000 diesel-powered streetlights have also been converted to solar, reducing carbon emissions and operational costs:
Political Stability and Support:
Politically, Governor Soludo benefits from the enduring strength of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, which has maintained control for over a decade.  The absence of formidable opposition candidates and the potential support from influential political figures further solidify his re-election prospects. According to one political observer in the State, Soludo has effectively and effortlessly silenced opposition.
Vision for the Future:
Looking ahead, Governor Soludo has outlined an ambitious second-term agenda, including the development of smart cities, the establishment of a state-wide rail network, and the creation of a comprehensive oncology center.  These initiatives aim to consolidate the gains of his first term and propel Anambra State towards a more prosperous and sustainable future.
In summary, Governor Soludo’s impactful leadership, evidenced by tangible achievements and a clear vision for continued development, underscores the strong momentum behind his re-election campaign.  The convergence of infrastructural progress, educational reforms, healthcare improvements, youth empowerment, and political stability makes a compelling case for his continued stewardship of Anambra State.
Born on July 28, 1960, Soludo, from Aguata, is married to Nonye and their union is blessed with children – Ozonna and Adaora. He served as CBN Governor between 2004 and 2009, significantly transforming the banking sector. The fifth Governor of Anambra State, he remains the only professor to have presided over the affairs of the State. One of the prides of the great University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), from where he graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 1984; an MSc in Economics in 1987 and a PhD in 1989, winning prizes for the best student at all three levels. He was appointed a professor of Economics at UNN in 1998 and a year later, a visiting professor at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, United States of America.
His people decorated him with the chieftaincy title of Odenigbo – and acting true to form, his political exploits have been echoing far and wide.
