A landlady, Mrs Mary Sowemimo has landed in trouble after she reportedly engaged some thugs who removed her female tenant’s apartment roof and in the process destroyed her property worth about N2.5million over non payment of rent.

She was arrested and charged before a Lagos court and remanded in prison custody.

The incident happened at 2 Alani Street, Fatade area of Ijegun in the outskirts of Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the tenant, Esther Omokaledu was owing the landlady rent since January this year after she faced challenges in her business and informed her landlady.

But the landlady would have none of that and asked her to move out from the place just like other tenants who were owing did.

It was gathered that the tenant pleaded with the landlady to be patient with her and promised to clear the arrears of the rent when her business picks up again.

However, the landlady refused and reportedly engaged some people who removed the roof and the ceiling covering her apartment when she was not around.

Unfortunately, there was a heavy downpour and her properties were destroyed.

The matter was reported to the police at Isheri Oshun Division and the landlady was arrested and detained at the station.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the landlady told the police that she did so because the tenant was owing her rent and was living in her house for free for several months.

The police found her culpable and charged her before Ejigbo Magistrates court.

She pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Kenneth Asibor did not object to her bail and told the court to grant her bail in such a way that will enable her to come for trial in the interest of justice.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail condition and the matter was adjourned till 30 October, 2017.
