APC Congress: We Won’t Tolerate Media War – Buni Cautions Party Chieftains, Insists On Consensus Option

Posted on July 29, 2021

Ahead of Saturday conduct of congresses to elect executives at Ward level, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, has cautioned chieftains of the party to refrain from trading accusations on the pages of newspapers.

Buni gave the admonition, on Wednesday, while inaugurating the teams to conduct the exercise at state chapters across the country.

Represented by the National Secretary of the APC CECPC, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, the Yobe State Governor advised chieftains, who might be aggrieved over the outcome of the forthcoming Congresses to explore the party internal mechanisms of conflict resolutions in line with the provisions in the APC Constitution.
‌He said: “May I also offer some words from our National Chairman and Governor of Yobe State, Honourable Mai Mala Buni for our party faithful. He said that I should remind our party members through this avenue that a political party is an organization of persons who have subscribed to the ideals and rules of the group, and such rules include internal mechanisms for handling and solving disputes, therefore the practice of running to the public space without exploring the internal mechanism of conflict resolutions is not only unhealthy but an affront to the Constitution of the party”.

“So going forward, it should be stopped.”

The APC Caretaker Chairman further advised the Committees saddled with the conduct of Ward Congresses to discharge their assignment diligently and conscientiously.

He however, maintained that priority must be given to the consensus option in the emergence of leadership at all levels.

“In continuation of the rebuilding and repositioning processes of our party, our Ward Congresses to produce the Ward Executive Committees and the delegates at that level will take place this Saturday, lst July, 2021, and you’ve been selected to superintend over that exercise.”

“There’s no doubt that within this room are the creme de la creme of our Party, our first team for any competition.”

“Therefore, I urge you to keep the interest of the party first and foremost within your hearts. The success of this exercise depends so much on you, the unity of our party also depends on the outcome and the outcome essentially depends on your handling of issues and the overall conduct of the exercise.”

“Do not forget that, the CECPC reserves the power to recall the team or any of its members whose conduct is below expectation, after all, he who hires, can also fire.”

“You’ve been urged to encourage consensus arrangements, where possible. Article 20 of our party’s constitution and the guidelines for the congresses shall be your guide”.
