The struggle for the Anambra North Senatorial District seat is about to take another dimension as one of the political bigwigs in APGA plans to declare his intention.

The APGA stalwart, Comrade Harris Chuma hails from Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that Chuma is under intense pressure to declare his intention to vie for Senate, since he has the potentials and political prowess to offer quality representation.

Chuma, who was a governorship aspirant for the just concluded Anambra governorship election under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), defected to APGA before the election.
Shortly after his defection to APGA, Comrade Chuma collapsed his guber campaign structure, and floated a formidable media Organization known as Independent Media Support Organization (IMSO), a platform that revolutionised media engagements and strategic approach to Gov Obiano’s reelection bid.

When contacted after his defection, he said he was blindfolded by unrealistic promises of APC, adding that APC has no political vision and strategies to transform the nation, especially in South East States.

According to him, “I was strongly opposing the APGA government and was sponsored to vie against Gov Obiano under APC. But one day, I came to realize that I was about shooting myself on the leg.

“Obiano is my in-law from Anambra North and his wife is my sister from Ogbunike. By so doing, they are my family.  So the best thing to do was to support my family.

“Apart from family relationship, Anambra North has been relegated politically at the federal level. We have suffered enough of poor representation at the Red chambers. We had been denied of meaningful democratic dividend…

“Anambra North alone has economic potentials to survive as a state. We have strong institutions, materials and natural resources. And Obiano has unveiled his strategies to harness all these resources.

“If politicians can tell themselves the truth, the Obiano administration has performed beyond expectations. He has transformed Anambra State and attracted futuristic developments that would boost the state’s economy and make it fiscally independent.”

It was gathered that after his defection to APGA, (where he vowed to deliver Obiano in his ward and town), his  life became threatened by some APC loyalists within and outside the state.

When some journalists contacted Comrade Chuma on his intention to vie for Anambra North Senatorial seat, he said though he has been under pressure, but he must make proper consultations.

According to him, “I respect the  people of Ogbunike community. I can’t do anything without them. There is always a due process.

“Secondly, APGA is our party and will do everything possible to ensure adequate unity and the principle of “Onye aghana nwanne ya “.
