Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor has described her performance and that of her team to win the women’s 4x100m relay race on Day 3 of the ongoing Asaba 2018 African Senior Athletics Championships as amazing.
The quartet of Okagbare, Joy Udo-Gabriel, Tobiloba Amusan and Rosemary Chukwuma received a standing ovation from the capacity crowd that included the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba Friday’s evening when they won the relay race for Team Nigeria.
The stadium was electrifying when the Nigerian athletes braced the tape to win the gold medal of the race.
“It was amazing doing this race in the full glare of my people. I’m so much happy and elated, ” said Okagbare who pulled out of the 100m and 200m races of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) event.
” I must confess, this tournament is very important for me and I feel amazing, ” she said.
She gave kudos to other members of the relay team who she said have worked very hard to attain the success.
“This was the same team that we ran the last Commonwealth Games together. We trusted each other and this have been a wonderful outing for us, ” Okagbare remarked.
She gave a thumbed up to the organisers of the Asaba 2018, saying that though there are hitches, these should not undermine the good works done by Solomon Ogba- led Local Organising Committee (LOC).
“The organisation of this competition has not been bad as some people thought. I think the people behind this tournament have done a good job judging from the short time they prepared for the competition, ” she said.
