The National President of Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU), Chief Sir Emeka Diwe, has commended Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Igbo leaders across various facets, for holding a strategic stakeholders’ meeting at Abuja to discuss the security and socio-economic well-being of Ndigbo.
Chief Diwe who was part of the meeting at Abuja, stated this while answering questions from journalists who accosted him in his Aba’s Office.
He said that the strategic meeting which rallied South East governors, Senators, Members of House of Representatives and notable Igbo leaders, irrespective of political party affiliation, was unique and unusual.
He observed that though the South East, unlike other geo- political zones in the country is controlled by four different political parties, but the leaders defiled party linings and attended the meeting to present a common front on major challenging areas including Security and Economy.
Chief Diwe, who is the leader of the Igbos at the grassroots, hailed the leaders for bringing security and economic issues of the zone to front burner. He noted that the two major issues affect the people of the grassroots in a more devastating manner.
“The grassroots suffer insecurity more and bear the brunt of bad economy more than can be imagined. He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches, and no man can shave a man’s hair in his presence”, he said.
He therefore, called on Igbo leaders to ensure full integration of the leadership of the communities in the development and implementation of  the blueprints  that will leap frog the zone out of the quagmire.
