Athletics: CAA President Arrives Nigeria For A Working Visit

The President of the Confederation of African Athletics, CAA, Hamad Kalkaba will Sunday arrive in Nigeria for a three-day working visit to the country.

The continent’s number one athletics figure will be welcomed on arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos by the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC President Habu Gumel, the Athletics Federations President, Evang. Solomon Ogba and other sports dignitaries.

According to a statement by Olukayode Thomas , the Head of Communication and Media for the AFN, while in Lagos, the CAA President will be holding a meeting with the NOC President before proceeding to Asaba, Delta State for the second leg of his visit.

On Monday, Kalkaba will be meeting the Executive Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on the hosting of the 2018 CAA African Athletics Championships.

This is the second-time Nigeria will be hosting the continent’s flagship athletics championship since she did so back in 1989.

Delta State which is widely seen as the home of athletics in Nigeria and beyond will again be showcasing itself to the world with the planned hosting of 21st edition of the Senior African Athletics Championships.

The African Championships in Athletics is a continental athletics event organized by CAA and the last edition was held in Durban, South Africa.

After meeting with the Delta State governor, the next point of call for the visiting CAA President will be Port Harcourt where Kalkaba would visit the High-Performance Center in the state.

The CAA President will meet with the center’s director, Ken Anugweje and other AFN officials as they rub minds on how to move the Center forward.
