Breaking: Ahmed Lawan Emerges Senate President Of The 9th National Assembly
Senator Ahmed Lawan representing Yobe North Senatorial District, Yobe State, has been elected the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly.
In an election conducted early Tuesday where 107 senators voted, Lawan garnered 79 votes to defeat his man challenger, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume who polled 28.
While announcing the results of the election, the Clerk of the Senate, Mohammed Sani-Omolori said that “in the strength of the results, it is my pleasure to announce that having scored the highest votes cast, I hereby declared Senator Ahmed Lawan as the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Former Senate Leader, Lawan is the preferred candidate of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress(APC).
His nomination was moved by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi and seconded by Adeola Olamilaken of Lagos West.
Meanwhile, Senator Ovie OmoAgege polled 68 votes to beat Senator Ike Ekeremadu who polled 37 votes to the Deputy Senate President post.
One Senator ascended vote with another One void vote.
